On the following pages are prayer requests from your representatives at work in the Lord's mission around the world. Also included are the names of those who are celebrating birthdays. Pray that a program of special activities for new international studenb attending Concordia University, Irvine, will open doors toward sharing the Gospel in a very meaningful way.

Wives of LCMS missionaries, Africa
Praise God for the safe delivery of Ariana Marie Schulte and for her surgery. Also for safe travel for the Lutz and Paika families, and for the children at Elm House.

Don Ellcy, Venezuela
Pray for our volunteers Ardele Martinez, and John and Helen Weesner-adapting to life in a new culture, learning a new language and working hard to develop programs for women and children. Pray also for Missionary Richard Schlak and the new mission in Maracay.
January 4
Fred Durbin, Japan
Pray for MasaaW Kobayashi, not yet a Christian, who is studying English with Pastor Watanabe. Pray that the Holy Spirit will open his heart to the Gospel.

Greg and Stephanie Lorenz, Guatemala
Praise God for a safe summer of traveling and for special times with our family while on home leave. Then ask the Lord to bless our work in Las Pacayas.

Carl Selle, East Lansing, Michigan
Praise God for Bob and Marie, who opened their heard to a nominally Muslim couple from Turkey this past summer, sharing Jesus' love by providing meals, travel, visits to church, promising also to keep in touch as they resume life in Istanbul.

January 7
The Minaret Monthly (PABLO), Wayne, Michigan
Pray that the Lord bless the People of The Book Lutheran Outreaches among Muslims in the Detroit area. Pray also for Pastor Duncan's wife, Jennifer, who shares in his work since only women can talk to Muslim women. Then pray for a young Muslim man from Palestine who attended Promise Keepers in the Silverdome and now attends St Michael's in Wayne, that the Holy Spirit would strengthen his new faith.
January 8
Todd and Kim Roask, Philippines
Pray for the leaders in Sabangan, Baliton and Petenit as they lead Bible classes "on their own." Pray that the Lord would now open another Bible study site for a fourth Bible study.

John and Trish Rondema, Nigeria
Pray for John and Trish, the house parents at Elm House boarding school in Jos, Nigeria, and for the Lord's blessing on the 12 children (plus two of their own) entrusted to their care.

David Coles, Venezuela
Praise God for the opportunity to serve as translator for the Spanish-speaking presidents attending the International Lutheran Council in Adelaide, Australia. Praise God also for the 60 youth who attended gatherings in Bolivar and Monagas State. Pray that their youthful spirit will "spark" further growth in the congregations they represent.

David and Darlene Schneider, South Africa
Pray that God will send a qualified volunteer seminary teacher to help carry the load and share the joy of training LCSA pastors to, in turn, train lay people for service.

Pray for the 15 students who participated in last summer's study program in California, that they might know Jesus as their Lord. Pray also for the people of Japan, and especially for our teachers at Urawa Lutheran School who are not Christian.

Pray for Michael and Kristen (Michael is HIV+ and Kristen is pregnant), that God will protect this young couple from the evil one and create a felt need inside their hearts for Jesus. Certain that "nobody cares" for them, convince them the Lord does care!

Praise God for sending Shirley (Granny) Green, who manages Davao Mission House, volunteers in Faith School Library, does Cebuano language study, and watches over Katy and David so Don and Joanne can return to their mountain home and the ministry there with the Tagakaulo people.

Pray for Lydia; her son, Alex; his wife, Helen; and their two children Alex, 12, and Natasha, 11, that Satan's deceptions will be overcome and that I can show them the love of Jesus as we live together as one large family.

Praise God for the safe arrival of Ruth Van Zandt. Pray also for her adjustment to Bangkok living, and the new culture and language. Then pray for Rin, Fai and Bwnk, being trained as small group Bible study and music leaders.

Praise God for WM Director Tom Going as he tallies the number of WM'ers God has sent to Japan. Pray for our Japanese congregations as they put in their requests for WM'ers to serve in their midst during the coming year.

Merrell and Sandra Wetzstein, Panama
Pray that God bless the work of Edistio and Leivi in Las Canas as they seek to raise up a church among the people of this community. Praise God for the successful eyeglass clinic and the many contacts that were made for follow-up evangelism.
January 22
Daniel and Kathryn Conrad, Venezuela
Pray that a full-time pastor for Barinas will be found soon since the doors of opportunity in this community of more than 60,000 are many.

Praise God for the baptism of Olga, the first person I have baptized in Russia. Pray also for spiritual eyes to see new opportunities, and for good interpersonal relations with our mission team.

Pray that God will bless the new missionary team of the Wittes and Boones as they expand the work in the State of Anzoategui. Pray also for the safe delivery of our second child.

Bob and Gerri Jennings, Ghana
Pray for our Jennifer, attending St. Paul's High School in Concordia, Mo. Pray for the Ghana mission field as the four new missionaries settle in and begin their work.
January 26
David and Geri Lundien, Honduras
Praise God that the Lutheran church we attend recently reopened a clinic to attend to the medical needs of poor families who live nearby. Two doctors who attend our church staff the clinic. Praise God for an LWML group in Shreveport, La., that provided some unexpected gifts so staff could purchase needed medicines.

Bob and Carolyn Aldridge, Papua New Guinea
Pray for the students at Timothy Lutheran Seminary as they prepare for service in our congregations. As they complete their training, help them remain true to God's Word.
January 28
Brian and Jayne Cummins, Panama
Pray for God's Spirit to be present and active in this land, that His Word would return 100-fold. Pray also for all of us to quickly grasp the language and to make the adjustments necessary to fit into the Panamanian culture.

As we begin a Saturday Sunday School at Goethe Schule, pray that the Lord will open the doors to this opportunity and that many students will attend. Pray also that the Lord bless the weekly Bible study for the teachers of Goethe Schule.

Pray that the Jamaican Advisory Council members have discerning minds for the many decisions regarding Lutheran Ministries in Jamaica. Praise God for the Nebraska Lutheran Mission Society and its support of our mission efforts.

Pray for our work in Shibata and for the Volunteer Youth Ministry team members (Audra, Ed, Josh, Tyler Beth, Becky and Karin) as they begin their Japanese language and culture classes preparing them for service.
